What is a copay?
A copay is a fixed amount your plan may require you to pay for a covered service. It can vary by service, and whether you must first meet a deductible depends on your plan. Check your benefits before a visit.
What is a deductible?
A deductible is the amount you pay for covered services subject to it before your plan starts sharing those costs. Some services may be covered before you meet it. Check your plan for the amount, what counts toward it, and any separate deductibles.
Does meeting my deductible mean every visit is free?
Not necessarily. Copays or coinsurance, a percentage of the covered cost, may still apply after you meet your deductible. Your responsibility depends on your plan, the service, and the provider’s network status. Acceptance of an insurance brand does not guarantee a no-cost visit.
How can I check what I may owe before an appointment?
Ask your insurer to confirm the provider and center are in network, your remaining deductible, and any copay or coinsurance for the planned service.
